Huge SEND reforms on the horizon
The academic year has barely begun and we have already seen major updates and releases around accountability and the direction of travel with regards to inclusion (see links below to a report from the Children’s Commissioner and Ofsted). A number of colleagues from across the community sit on expert reference groups and play a key role in advising the Department and other national organisations. Please keep an eye out for a date and webinar link in which we will come together as a community to reflect and respond to the upcoming white paper.

National Enrichment Framework and Inclusive Sport
A new national network will be developed to build strong partnerships between schools, local clubs, and National Governing Bodies. Its aim: to identify and break down barriers to sport for children who are less active, particularly girls and pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
This work will be underpinned by a new Enrichment Framework, designed to ensure equal access to high-quality extra-curricular activities, including football and other sports.
School Sport Transparency
The government has also committed to publishing information about every school’s sport and enrichment offer. This will be made available through new ‘school profiles’, a one-stop shop for parents to see what activities their children can access. More details are expected this autumn.

DfE Curriculum Review: Inclusion in Focus
In December, we were delighted to welcome Becky Francis CBE, Chair of the DfE Curriculum Review, along with Gary Aubin to an EfL LearningShared Conference at Swiss Cottage School.
Attendees had the opportunity to share practice and ask questions directly to Becky and fellow panel members. We’re proud that many from our community contributed to this review both formally and informally, and we’re pleased to see the interim report highlight:
- A strong emphasis on inclusion
- A focus on broader outcomes
- The importance of raising aspirations for learners with SEND

Shaping Policy Together
Our community continues to help shape and influence policy with national partners such as Ofsted, The DfE, EQUALS and a range of national partners.
We look forward to welcoming colleagues from the above-mentioned organisations to our events in 25/26 and if you have views and practice you would like to share please don’t hesitate to contact us.
