Championing enrichment and inclusion in education
Across the year we have shone a light on great outcomes for young people and adults with additional needs in sport, music and the arts and are delighted to have a member from our EfL / LearningShared steering group on the DfE Enrichment reference group.
Alistair Crawford has pulled together key updates from across the sector, for this year and on into 2026…
Key developments in sport, curriculum and policy
A national network will be developed to build strong partnerships between schools, local clubs and National Governing Bodies to identify and break down barriers to sport for children who are less active, primarily girls and pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
It will be supported by a new Enrichment Framework to ensure all young people have equal access to high-quality extra-curricular activities – including football and other sports.
The government has also committed to publish information about every school’s sport and enrichment offer, so parents can see what their children can play. The information will be included in new ‘school profiles’ – a one stop shop for parents to see information about their local schools, with further detail to come in the autumn. In December we welcomed the chair of the DfE Curriculum Review, Becky Francis CBE to a LearningShared conference at Swiss Cottage School. Attendees had the opportunity to share their thoughts, practice and ask questions directly to Becky and other panel members. In addition we are proud of several community members who contributed both formally and informally to the review and look forward very much to the full release in the autumn. Reading the interim report (link below) we are heartened to see strong references to inclusion and a focus on broader outcomes and raising aspiration for learners with SEND.

Shaping the future: Community voice and national influence
Our community continues to help shape and influence policy with national partners such as Ofsted, The DfE, EQUALS and a range of national partners.
We look forward to welcome colleagues from the above mentioned organisations to our events in 25/26 and if you have views and practice you would like to share please don’t hesitate to contact us.
